The weather forecast was pessimistic, but we had fair weather for our shoot. Three new beginners were being coached and Martin was settling in with his new bow. Mike Williamson shot into second class again on our Warwick, Justin shot into second class too and was seriously chuffed. I shot a personal best and was amazed to find myself Gents Recurve Record holder by 1 Gold over Roy Lockwood !!! We hope you enjoyed your Easter weekend too.

The rain held off, lots of archers came and we had a good session, establishing some sightmarks and practicing finding arrows which landed in the Green ! I presented some of the Indoor Award badges as below. This year we are shooting from the road end, by the pavillion. David will be acquiring some new centres for the foam targets in a couple of weeks and I am straightening out the T pins, so the new season will run smoothly. I have end of season handicaps from last Summer, you’ll find these in the reports section. New Club Records A dozen new Club Records have been achieved this indoor season, the club will be awarding certificates to mark these, as soon as I’ve made them !! Rob End of Indoor Season – Ely Archers Indoor Classification Awards This year the Club is awarding Classification Badges for the indoor season. The normal records system does not classify barebow archers indoors, only outdoors, so we decided to award barebow archers as though they were shooting recurve. So, they generally are awarded for one class down, but have achieved that barebow ! The Awards this year are: Jurjen, Barebow, Class E Cliff, Barebow, Class F Lyndsey, Barebow, Class F Maggie, Barebow, Class E Paula, Barebow, Class E Clive, Recurve, Class F Mike Thornley, Recurve, Class D Mike Williamson, Recurve, Class D Francis Brien, Barebow Class F Rob, Recurve, Class D Badges will be awarded as and when I see you at meetings. Congratulations to all. [PS There were a few archers who had only two recorded scores, so just missed out, you’ll do it next year !]

A lovely Sunny afternoon, with a good mix of archers out to enjoy it. Francis Brien was awarded his Club Record Certificate for Barebow Portsmouth U16 from the Winter Season, well done Francis. Today’s archery went well in some quarters: Mike Thorley and Dennis Williams both shot first class Long Nationals and set a new club record for Recurve and Compound respectively. David Stagg was disappointed with his Barebow score on the National, but nevertheless set a new club record, beating [ Time to come and win it back JJ ] Congratulations to all three. I am away for the next 6 Sundays but the calendar on the website shows the nominated rounds and the scoresheets for all rounds are in the box in the container. [ and on the website] Your completed scoresheets can be left in the box for me to catch up with when I get back. Keep it tidy and enjoy making and breaking those Club Records as well as scoring new personal bests and racking up those new Classifications and Handicaps.

Once again we enjoyed a dry shoot, against forecast. Several of us were there, all enjoying ourselves trying to make an improvement. I managed to re-attain last years Outdoor Second Class and incidentally established the first record for the club with a recurve Long National, not too hard to beat ! Don’t forget that to establish and make progress with your personal Handicap Rating and Classification you need to submit scoresheets, three to set your first levels. Sunday Target shoots are good for this, conducted under the GNAS rules of shooting. Archers may not be able to make Sundays or miss some. For archers to have a greater opportunity to shoot recorded scores it is acceptable by the Club for archers to shoot a scored round on a Friday or Wednesday, but, the scores must be submitted on the Club Scoresheet and the round must be shot according to the GNAS rules of shooting, essentially: shooting the round is the first thing you do on arrival at the ground that session. You have 6 sighters at the longest distance only. Another archer must score for you and both of you must sign the scoresheet, then get it to me. Enjoy measuring your personal achievements and making records!

Our first Outdoor Target Day and we shot Warwicks three of us the standard Warwick, 60 and 50 yards and two shot the Junior Short Warwick 30 and 20 yards. Harry Tapp establishing a new club record ! It was a lovely afternoon by Mid-April standards and we even greased the container door mechanism! Chris was unsure that his Portsmouth Triple Face record was correct, but I’ve treble checked Chris and it is. Tuesday 8th April Reports set up for outdoor season
